HORIZONTALITEIT
Wright heeft parallele vlakken gebruikt om daarmee te benadrukken dat daarmee het gebouw
parallel staat met de aarde, het gebouw behoort daarmee tot de aarde. Hij waardeerde de natuur,
met name de Midweste natuur. Dit kwam vooral omdat hij vroeger met zijn oom op het land moest
werken in de zomer. Hij kon daar de horizontale lijn van het land observeren, de lijn die hij aannam
als thuis en vrijheid "On the flat prairie of the Midwest, breadth would be a sign of shelter, as height was a sign of power and success in the city" (17). It would signify comfort, a quality that Wright wanted to characterize his buildings, particularly his houses.
Maquette
As Wright's career progressed, so did the mechanization of the glass industry. Wright fully embraced glass in his designs and found that it fit well into his philosophy of organic architecture. Glass allowed for interaction and viewing of the outdoors while still protecting from the elements. In 1928, Wright wrote an essay on glass in which he compared it to the mirrors of nature: lakes, rivers and ponds.
